Vines, flowers and vertical planting

I had to take a photo of these flowers at the Dock Kitchen.  Dill, Kerria, Phlox and other summer bounty, created by Kensal florists Scarlet and Violet:

These vines grown as 'standards' are an original take on the ubiquitous bay tree outside most restaurants.  I would go further and underplant with oregano, or white lavender...

Lastly a great wall of green - including many plants you might easily stumble across on a horizontal plane.  Great.

A pretty vase of honeysuckle

Hedgerows and fences are heavy with honeysuckle right now - and its scent is strongest at night.  A bedside vase is where it belongs, with wisps of flowering grasses and other delicate natives.

Tangerine go

Great in the sunshine.  But wouldn't it lift winter's gloom too?

Rain on the ride

A towpath is a peaceful way to go.  Elevated on a bike, there are glimpses into gardens backing onto the river, pot holes that take you away from the city, and smells of clean sportswear as runners woosh by.

A man sat at a bench reading the paper under an umbrella; further along a lady in her dressing gown wheeling a suitcase; but, most absurd of all, the sight of a sprinkler on.

Touchingly a happy man was belting out ‘Mary’s Prayer’ at the entrance of an underground car park, while the River CafĂ© treated lucky Monday night diners to vegetables grown in their garden.

A sun shade of Plane trees

I like the idea of wrapping these platform trained trees round the edge of a terrace. With a span of at least 2m they would cast a dappled shade around the terrace, leaving a pool of sunshine in the middle. You could gravel up to the trunks, or alternatively underplant with catmint, rosemary, lavender etc.
